Single braids, often known as core lines are usual constructed from hi-tech materials line Dyneema , Spectra, Vectran etc.  They are used in applications of high loads,  where stretch stretch stretch, small diameters for less windage and weight savings are required.  Typical application being halyards.

Dinghy single braid. 2 mm SK75 Dyneema core

SK 75 Dyneema core has become mainstay of uncover hi-tech lines and has proven to be very durable.  Its strength in high load applications where ultra low stretch is required make it ideal for halyards and low stretch sheets.  It has been coated with a protective UV resistant urethane which also adds to the already good abrasion resistant qualities of Dyneema.  Coupled with itts most favorable strength to weight ratios and limited water absorption make it one of the best dinghy line available!

Dinghy single braid. 3 mm Vectran Core

'Southern Ropes' Vectran core is manufactured from 100% vectran and is heat set and UV coated.  Its strength in high load applications where ultra low stretch is required make it ideal for halyards and sheets that require low stretch.   Vectran has superior creep characteristics (close to zero) than Dyneema making  idea for jib and main halyards where you want want to to be able to set and leave for a given wind and sea condition.  Excellent in rotational stability.  In the core condition vectran is not as as UV stable as Dyneema.
